Weddings Unveiled...the life of a wedding planner
Behind the scenes
Alison and Brian from Grogan Studios just sent me the pictures from Melissa and Paul's July 19 wedding. Among all the gorgeous shots of my couple, there were a few of me at work that day - I usually manage to avoid the camera lens but they caught me this time!

A few shots from that day:

I LOVE this picture! My assistant that day was none other than the lovely Kasey from Bliss!

So there you have it - just a few pictures from behind the scenes on the wedding day! I will be posting Melissa and Paul's gallery very soon!

101 Things Update
It has been shamefully long since I updated my 101 Things in 1001 Days list and I am happy to say that I have made some pretty good progress lately!

29. Teach Ellie sign language
Ellie and I took a sign language class at the Elizabeth Blackwell Center. I have been lax at keeping it up with her but it was still quite fun!

46. Participate in one Race for the Cure Walk each year (1/3)
Okay, so I cheated a little and "Slept in for the Cure" but it still counts in my book!

64. Make Limoncello
I did but honestly, I am not sure if it turned out as well as it could have. I had an issue with my container - it wasn't quite big enough once I added the sugar so I had to split it and I think one bottle is sweeter than the others! It also took so long, I doubt I would take the time again.

69. Find a signature dessert
Blackberry Cobbler from The Best Light Recipe - fantastic book with tons of great light recipes that don't taste light! This cobbler is very rich and super yummy!

73. Visit 6 new restaurants in one year (3/6)
I have recently visited Marcella's, Northstar and Molly Woo's.

75. Visit a farmer's market
Have visited Worthington's Farmer's Market several times and joined Wayward Seed's late season veggie and fruit CSA. Yum yum yum!

76. Have new brochures designed and printed
The ever wonderful Jenny at Seedlings created my new brochures and they will be in my hot little hands any day now!

80. Serve as a board member for ISES Columbus
I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for the first year of a two year term.

99. Read at least 20 books a year (12/20)
What can I say? I read a lot!

All these things bring my total to 10 things done, 3 things in progress, 88 things to go with 825 days remaining. I have a few more things on the horizon to finish this year so hopefully I can be at about 80 things to go very soon!

Twitter Brand Index
A great find for my fellow Twitter addicts:

Twitter Brand Index

Eleventy-thousand or so links to the official Twitter feeds of various newspapers, radio stations, TV channels, colleges, businesses, retailers, CEOs, non-profits orgs and lots more! Seriously, tons of Tweets to follow. I know I added at least 10 more feed this morning alone.

Enjoy!

Site Visit: Capital Club

41 South High Street
Seventh Floor
Columbus, OH 43215
61.228.0225

I had lunch last week with the Capital Club's Private Events Manager, Diana Holt. She showed me around the club and shared with me a couple of things that most people probably don't realize about the Capital Club.

First and foremost, you don't have to be a member to hold an event at the Capital Club. Although the club is private, anyone can hold their event there for a small fee and food and beverage minimum. Also, you don't need a member sponsor - a new policy for the Capital Club and something that is somewhat unique among private clubs in the area.

The Capital Club isn't big but for average sized weddings and rehearsal dinners, it could be an interesting choice. And one of the best parts? The rental fees and minimums are low - surprisingly so.

The President's Dining Room holds up to 150 for dinner. Rental includes chairs, tables, use of the Versailles Room (Diana mentioned it makes a great cake table) and the Terrace plus the Living Room and two smaller rooms that can be used for the bridal party or buffet. The room is neutral with gorgeous chandeliers - you can easily paint the room to match your event with uplighting and linens. The rental fee is a crazy low $500 with a food and beverage minimum of $3000.

LeBistro is another option that would be perfect for a rehearsal dinner or a intimate wedding as it holds up to 80 guests. It is more club like and masculine than the President's Dining Room. It has a great fire place and an attached pub that serves as the room's private bar. The rental fee is only $250 with a food and beverage minimum of $1000.

Another fun thing about the Capital Club is that the chef is all about the custom menu. Just gives him your ideas and he will build a menu around your theme. Diana was telling me about a wedding they have coming up with different stations that were all created by the bride, groom and Capital Club's chef. There are no preset menus here, they will all be custom designed to fit your tastes, themes and budget.

There are pictures of the different rooms and more information on their website: Capital Club. Make sure to check out pictures of the Versailles Room - I am in love with the silver walls!

Fab Find: 3-D Wallflowers
How cool are these 3-D wallflowers? They are actually magnetic and attach to the wall via small metal tacks. They can be painted, are repositionable (put them in your living room once you get back from the honeymoon) and they are super reasonable - you get 25 of them for $37! I can just see these on a blank wall behind a ceremony - it would be so pretty!

New Gallery on EDEP!

Maggie and Ryan by Photo by Gillilan.

I LOVE the above series of pictures! Maggie and Ryan saw each other before their ceremony so they could get their pictures done and join the party ASAP. This was the first time they saw each other on the wedding day - I just love how these pictures give you a peek into a very special moment! How cute is Maggie in that second picture? I love how you can see how excited she was!

You can read my full recap here.

The EAD Library is open!
The lovely ladies at Elizabeth Anne Designs already have a fab blog that I visit on a regular basis. Today they are launching the brand new EAD Library:

The Library has hundreds of links (including Emilie Duncan Event Planning, we are flattered to report) for amazing wedding vendors from around the country and the world! Lots of fun to browse and, of course, super useful for planning your wedding!

A big congrats to Rebekah and Ami on this new undertaking!

Melissa + Paul: 07.19.08
The Story
Melissa and Paul met while they were living here in Columbus. Now I am not exaggerating when I say this is one very busy couple! When I met them, Melissa was finishing up her Masters and working full time plus doing an internship. Paul was finishing up his PhD and teaching at Wright State. Both also had hobbies and friends that took up any leftover moments of spare time! Since both sets of parents lived out of state, they decided they needed help early on and came to me in August - our first meeting was when I was literally 9 months pregnant with Ellie!

Melissa and Paul were married exactly one year after he proposed on a very hot day in Columbus. Thankfully, the ceremony and reception were both inside but the bridal party did make it around town for some pictures - water and an air conditioned van helped the situation and we got them back inside without anyone melting!

Melissa is Jewish and Paul is Catholic but they had a Jewish ceremony performed by the Rabbi from the temple that Melissa attended throughout her childhood. I love that Rabbi Judy has known the family and the bride for so long and was able to speak so personally about Melissa and Paul.

Rather than the usual setup with the Chuppah at the front of the room, we did the ceremony in the round. The Chuppah which Melissa and Paul stood under to be married was set up in the middle of the room with chairs all around it. Everyone had a good seat and could see the ceremony plus the couple exchanged vows literally surrounded by those who love them the most.

The Chuppah was gorgeous! It was exactly what Melissa told me she wanted - simple, clean, a bit modern with no flowers trailing down. The entire thing was covered in flowing white fabric with flowers at each corner including tulips which Paula from Flowers by Doris got in JULY - a small miracle to say the least. The Mother of the Bride also gave us the veil that she wore for her wedding and we draped that over the top as well - a wonderful nod to the bride's parents who have been married for over 30 years! In fact, Paul's parents have been as well - Melissa and Paul have good role models of love in their lives!

While the guests enjoyed cocktail hour after the ceremony, we flipped the room from ceremony set up to dinner set up. The tables were covered with pink satin linens with some unique centerpieces. When Melissa and Paul first told me that they wanted to use Edible Arrangements (yes, the fruit bouquets) for their guest tables, I was a little curious as to how it would go over but I must say it was quite a hit and turned out really cute! The fruit is all cut to look like flowers and Melissa and Paul chose really pretty white vases - the guests all had fun deciding which pieces they wanted to go with their cake! I think I even saw a scuffle over a chocolate covered apple - yum!

Since Melissa and Paul are both dog lovers and adopted their dog from the Capital Area Humane Society, they wanted to give a donation to the CAHS in honor of their guests. They had cookies made in the shape of dog bones and tied them with a tag explaining the donation to the guests. To carry the dog theme through, the tables were named after different breeds of dogs and even the place cards and place card display had a bit of puppy spirit to them!

The only disappointment I have is that I didn't get my traditional picture with the bride and groom that you normally see at the end of each gallery - why is that exactly? Everyone wanted to talk to them or dance with them - I literally couldn't pull them away for a second! We still had at least 40 guests when the reception ended at midnight who didn't want the party to end. It was a wonderful evening!

I have really enjoyed seeing the wedding come together and watching Melissa and Paul do everything else in their lives at the same time! I don't know where that energy comes from! Now obviously, I won't be getting as many emails from the Mother of the Bride, Susie. However, she has told me that she and her friends back in Illinois are faithful blog stalkers so I have a hunch I will be hearing from them all from time to time! (Hi everyone from Carbondale!!)

Melissa and Paul are moving to Louisiana soon and I just want to wish them all the best with a lifetime of love, happiness, dog bone cookies, trains, photography, and all the good things that come from having a true partner in life. Mazel Tov and much love - thank you for letting me be a part of your day!

I heart Cake Wrecks
Okay, a new one for your blog stalking pleasure:

Cake Wrecks

Anyone who can find a picture of a cake featuring naked babies riding carrots is fantabulous in my book! Still giggling over that one. Enjoy!

Comments are acting weird
I am so sorry if you have commented in the last day but for some reason, most of those comments have been erased. I have no idea why but if yours vanished into the great unknown, please feel free to report!

Darn blog has a mind of it's own!
